But for 29 paddlers it was an early start to the morning with the start of round two of the Frostbite Stand Up Paddleboarding winter race series.
The paddlers braved the frosty elements on Sunday morning out on the Kingsbridge estuary to battle for the top spot.
A great turn out saw the men and women compete across the river and out into the estuary. The unlimited category was won by Ryan James, the fastest paddler of the day, finishing in 30 minutes flat, closely followed by our Knowledge Box celebrity John Hibbard in second place.
The images that people conjure up when they think of Stand Up Paddleboarding is probably of perfect, blue waves in Hawaii with the rider wearing only brightly coloured boardshorts. The UK paddlers have taken on this new sport and have not only excelled in the racing and wave riding but have made it their own with this winter series. Who says its too cold to go out on the water?!
